PURPOSE:
To provide a resource for Okaloosa and Walton County citizens, planners, and political leaders to establish and promote pedestrian and bicycle-friendly communities. As an initiative of the Okaloosa-Walton Transportation Planning Organization (OW TPO), this plan will update the TPO’s Bicycle, Pedestrian, & Trail Master Plan by adding a Trail element to create a more comprehensive active transportation network.
FINAL RESULT:
In collaboration with a Local Working Group, planners, and Okaloosa & Walton County residents, staff will assess and summarize key trends, challenges, needs, constraints, and opportunities related to pedestrian, bicycle, and trail infrastructure within the Okaloosa-Walton TPO area. These findings will be compiled into the Bicycle, Pedestrian, & Trail Master Plan, which may include:
- Locations and types of facilities to be built
- Identification of ped/bike/trail improvements along capacity projects in the Okaloosa-Walton TPO Cost Feasible Plan
- Strategies for improving pedestrian and bicycle safety
- A system for maintaining and managing current and future pedestrian and bicycle facilities
- Development of a prioritized project list for Pedestrian and Bicycle facilities
- Development of a prioritized project list for Trail facilities
