The Emerald Coast Regional Council was recently awarded a monumental project by the Department of Defense-Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation (OLDCC) and the Florida Defense Support Task Force.  With this project, the Regional Council will conduct a Military Installation Resilience Review (MIRR) for the military bases and communities across Northwest Florida.

The MIRR will identify and analyze potential vulnerabilities to key off-base infrastructure shared by military installations and the communities across the Emerald Coast. Our military installations rely on off-base transportation, electricity, and stormwater networks, as well as other infrastructure managed by our local governments and utilities. Six military installations are in partnership with this project: NAS Pensacola, Whiting Field, Eglin AFB, Hurlburt Field, NSA Panama City and Tyndall AFB. The goal of this project is to develop action plans to mitigate risk and increase resiliency of surrounding communities to ensure commonly used infrastructure is dependable, specifically during extreme weather events or man-made threats. Projects identified in this MIRR may potentially be eligible for funding from the Department of Defense for implementation!

To mark the launch of this project, ECRC hosted a MIRR Kickoff event on April 26 at 10:00 am at the Okaloosa County Administration Building, located at 1250 Eglin Pkwy, Shalimar, FL 32579. This event provided an opportunity for military and community leaders from across the region to learn more about the MIRR, meet the project team, and provide input.
